9/22/2001 - Click here for info on the October 20th benefit dart tournament.  Fundraising brochures have been distributed to your team captains - please let us know if you need more.  The brochure has some information about the Maine Children's Cancer Program, but its main focus is what you can win if you participate.  Wondering how to approach your boss?  Here's how I did it:

Subject: annual benefit dart tournament

Hi folks -

Once again, the Saco River Dart League is holding a tournament to benefit the Maine Children's Cancer Program. Dart shooters will raise money for the MCCP by getting businesses and individuals to sponsor them to play in the tournament. As a fundraising incentive, tournament co-sponsors the Saco Elks have solicited a great selection of prizes from area merchants to be awarded to participating dart shooters. Follow this link for more information on both the tournament and the MCCP: http://www.dartsinmaine.com/srdl/benefit.htm

Please consider making a contribution, no matter how large or small. The Saco Elks will process the funds and present a check to the Maine Children's Cancer Program, so any checks should be made payable to the BPOE # 1597 and given to the dart shooter you are sponsoring prior to the tournament date of October 20th.

Thanks for your help!

9/21/2001 - Please check your Area Directors/League Contact Info sheet against the info on the website - some phone numbers have changed - the correct ones are here...
09/08/2001 - This is a reminder that all roster changes must be finalized this week (week 3).  Any players you have not paid for yet will be dropped from your roster unless payment is included with this week's match report, regardless of whether those players shoot this week.  Please call your area director if you have any questions.  It is the consensus of the board that the season started with the captains' meeting, so B division does not get an extra week to make roster changes.  Once rosters are finalized, all captains will be provided with a list of team rosters for their respective divisions.
09/05/2001 - Here is what to do if your team shoots short, to make the sheet still add up:

Write in the name of the missing player(s) as though they were there.  At the end of the match, cross out their names (one neat line through the name will do), and write on the back of the match report sheet that player x did not play.  Both captains need to sign this.  That way, your sheet still adds up, but the missing player is not credited with losing games they did not play.

Everyone please help get the word out!  Divisions A, C, and D will start a week earlier than planned.  The numbers of teams in these divisions does not work out to a 14-week season, so the fall season had to be changed to 15 weeks.
If you need to add a player, please phone your area director.  Do not e-mail the league, as not all of our area directors have e-mail access on a regular basis.   The area director will then call other board members until a majority vote is obtained and get back to you with whether the player was approved or not.  Do not shoot this player until you have board approval, or you will lose points!

Highlights of changes to rules/bylaws:

B DIVISION:  B division singles matches will be 301, best of three, double in, double out.  This was formerly one game of 501.  This change was made in the interest of encouraging players to develop greater skill in competitive darts.

ALL DIVISIONS:  Match report sheets must now be postmarked within 24 hours of the date the match was played.  Most teams do this already.  Making it a rule should ensure that we are able to provide you with a newsletter in a regular and timely fashion.

ALL DIVISIONS:  Captains' packets this season include an out chart.  Although bars are still strongly encouraged to provide out charts, this is no longer a requirement.  The league does not endorse any particular out chart, this is just one of many that are widely used.

ALL DIVISIONS:  Wording of the protest rule has changed.  We suggest all captains review your bylaws and rules & regulations, especially in event of questions during a match.

Info for Fall 2001 Season:

The bar for the season is the Saco Eagles.  That will be the location for all meetings and for the finals.

The MANDATORY captains' meeting will be Sunday August 26th at 1pm.  All league members are welcome to attend, but at least one member of each team (captain or a team representative) MUST be present.  Roll call is taken at both the beginning and end of the meeting, with point deductions for each.  Phone calls saying you're running late are not acceptable substitute for your personal presence.

*** IMPORTANT UPDATE ***

C&D divisions start Tuesday August 28th
A division starts Wednesday August 29th
B division starts Wednesday September 5th

The Finals are planned for Saturday December 15th at 4pm, with a draw doubles shootout for SRDL members afterwards.
